Support Blue Flames – A Story of Planning Application PR

A very well respected local sporting club stands to benefit massively should an application to build a new road on land shared by the facility be given the green light. It’s not often planning applications have such significant peripheral benefits to the local community, so we were thrilled to provide our PR services to ensure this proposal had the best possible chance of success.

In response to a brief from Manchester based urban regeneration specialist, Muse Developments, we have managed an on-going communications campaign to ensure that information on the plans for a high quality residential environment, and new access road to the site on which it will be built, was circulated around the immediate community and local authority figures.

As an agency our aim is to communicate to the local community and authority, the plans for the site and it’s future development through the implementation of various marketing activities across multiple media platforms and by doing so, raise awareness of the plans as well as engage with and involve those who would be affected by the development.

Such activity has included production and distribution of press releases based on various elements of the plans, production and distribution of leaflets to both the local community and council members, which explain the plans and the benefits to the area.

In addition to this, leaflets and direct letters were delivered to the members of North Tyneside Council’s Planning Committee, the local Member of Parliament and the ward members from Benton and Longbenton.

A manned public exhibition was held at Blue Flames Sporting Club following the distribution of information on the plans, for which several presentation boards were created. The information boards remained on display at Blue Flames Sporting Club for the week following the exhibition so that those who could not attend could find out more about the proposed development.

We also produced feedback cards, which were available to those who attended in order to further ascertain the views of the local residents on the proposed new road.

When the communications activities commenced, we created a microsite, www.billypit.co.uk, to ensure that information on the development and it’s planning applications could be kept up-to-date as it progresses. The site includes information on the development as a whole, all press releases relating to the plans, the benefits to Blue Flames Sporting Club should the plans be approved, and a petition that those in favour of the scheme can sign to show support for the plans in the lead up to the determination of the proposal.

All online content is support by social media activity, so that all information can be easily shared and distributed by third parties.

Take a look at our portfolio to see the full range of work we carried out, along side some lovely compliments from our colleague, John Brooks of DTZ/Turley Associates.
